The speed of things

People are on a frenzy to do things faster, with keyboard shortcuts, using macros, abbreviation expanders, etc. It is not automating things — which should really be done — but more a quest for “quantity” of deliverables. More and more text for example.

There are many occasions where doing things fast is required. But there are many other situations where this speed is harmful.

“To me, 5s is too much, and I've forgotten my idea”:Three-second memory? Sounds fishy. Yeah, even fishes have a longer memory than what we hear and read people saying.

This is precious time to allow your brain to start criticizing some things and elaborate your idea. Take that time to think, develop things structure your idea and then write it down.

Breath. The world is there, and you will still have the same opportunity to write things “5 seconds” later.

Go slow to be fast: a more structured idea will be better understood and hence can be used and shared faster. Don't end up with several half developed things that you don't understand a few hours or days later.

Add context, comments, and how that idea will help you. Make it something actionable. How is it going to help you achieve your goals?

Stop. Think. Turn it into action. Act. Don't do all at the same time and don't skip any steps. You'll see better results.
